Peep the trailer for new British cybergoth teen film ‘Spaceship’
Alex Taylor’s debut feature film is all about alien abduction, suburban estrangement and existential angst.
In Spaceship, everyone is looking for the exit. For Lucidia (Alexa Davies) this means getting out of her boring, backwater English town. Her boyfriend Luke (Lucian Charles Collier) believes she’s been snatched up by aliens. Their squad of cyber goths, BSDM punks, vaporwavers and day-glo doyens — who talk of black holes, stardust and unicorns — don’t need much arm-twisting. Her waggish widower dad thinks it might be something less dramatic, less extraterrestrial.
But Lucidia has accomplished what everyone in Spaceship is trying desperately to do: get the hell outta dodge. Alex Taylor‘s psychedelic, topsy-turvy narrative is a creative tour de force that is happy, heartfelt and hypnotizing. There are brain-bending drugs to enjoy, sexual adventures to explore, orthodoxy to undermine, punk-y pink hair, and plenty of laughs and gaffes to be had. This film is a tribute to British youth culture, and Alex and the cast do a bang-up job. With a soundtrack from Best Coast, Au Revoir Simone, The Incredible String Band, etc., Spaceship is the coolest coming-of-age flick to date. F#*k yeah! Watch the teaser below.
Spaceship hits theaters this May
