Aphex Twin’s insane two-hour Field Day tour de force
Brazen beatsmiths and electro pioneers Underground Resistance, Squarepusher, Kamixlo and Aphex Twin delivered a berserk, big-league and sonically shameless salvo over the weekend.
Aphex Twin spearheaded London’s Field Day festival this weekend, delivering a knockout musical wallop at Britain’s ginormous coliseum, The Barn, along with some visually splendiferous video and a redonkulous Las Vegas-style laser show. Courtesy of NTS Radio and in cahoots with creative accomplices Weirdcore TV, we can all witness the sizzling and manic set in all its digitally masked, multi-hour glory.
Initially, the audio-visual bliss builds out gradually, with sounds and optics from frontline artists Fis, Kamixlo, and Chino Amobi giving way to energetic electro from Gerald Donald of Drexciya (aka Heinrich Mueller) and the alpha maestro himself, Aphex. Meandering and mutating into skittish and brutish instrumentals, along with insane aural combinatorics that could possibly induce cerebral palsy and multiple spiritual awakenings, performances from grime pro Plastician, heavyset jungle from DJ Dextrous, and digital hardcore from Atari Teenage Riot’s Alec Empire were radioactive and sublime.
Moreover, Aphex Twin released a limited edition, high-NRG vinyl EP (with 11 tracks) called “London 03.06.17”, which sold out in about 11 nanoseconds. Aphex addicts, posting at Reddit, have compiled a playlist of tracks from the set, all of which you can enjoy here.
