Bernhard Willhelm – SS18
Incorporating carrots, pizzas, Papal gear and prints of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bernhard’s batty clothes are beyond cool.
Ever since our brilliant boy, Bernhard Willhelm, began designing clothes over two decades ago, the world has become a better place. He plunges us into some trans-sartorial cloister where creative mutations take place and good vibes always materialize. Bernhard is driven by a desire to unite human beings through love, passion, energy, and entropy, and we are tickled by his SS18 creations, which he debuted today in Paris.
A true tribute to diversity, his looks are imbued with colorways and culture that reflect our world’s cultural mosaic. Inspired by black holes, Egyptian gods in the afterlife and Point Break, his “Tropical” collection exuded an outré streetwise and spiritual edge. Swelling with sweatshirt dresses, spray-paint accents, gender-bender kimonos and colorful fringe, Bernhard pushed boundaries harder than ever. He even incorporated a modicum of political protest: a bag proclaimed “Dump Trump” with a “trumptweetie” bird logo. We loved the bleached-out corduroy shapeshifter things, dope drop-crotch trousers and the hula skirts that came in polymorphic forms. The pizza pies and papal regalia rocked too, and so did the washed-out red denim get-ups and that insane Arnold Schwarzenegger tote.
Always infusing his vivid imagination with an inclusive vision of humanity, Bernhard Willhelm — 20 years in the game — harmonizes socially-conscious fashion with an authentic indie vim.
