Byblos – SS19
Creative maniac Manuel Facchini brings Byblos back to MFW, with a show that paid homage to artistic freedom, unbridled self-expression and youth culture.
Showcasing futuristic fringing, retina-popping neons and boho meets sci-fi get-ups, Byblos’ SS19 show in Milan paid tribute to the vivacious, bodacious aesthetics of the (much over-hyped!) Burning Man festival. A summer ritual for free spirits and jobless kids since the mid-80s emphasizing artistic originality, offbeat music and drug-addled everything, the annual event is a celebration of creativity, individuality and personal autonomy. It’s also known for its cyber punk and post modern gypsy vibes, as embodied by our all-time favorite muse and paragon of beauty, Charlotte Free.
“Hippie and space-age references typical of the Burning Man mix together were explored,” according to the designer. Space suits with reflective trim, transitioning to urban, iridescent-colored parkas and cropped jackets create bold contrasts, while sporty details, directional silhouettes, shredded denim and florescent hair add a psychotropic touch. There were also references to recyclable materials and alt energy sources — eco-friendliness being a worthy cause championed by creative director Manuel Facchini. Check out the fun looks…
