Fierce Film – ‘Shangri La Suite’
Two young, damaged heartthrobs head to LA to kill Elvis in the summer of 1974
We’ve been obsessed with Eddie O’Keefe for a while, his awesome depictions of demonic mall-goths, Emo teens and blood-spattered cheerleaders. Exploring pop culture and desperado American youth, his new feature-length film ‘Shangri La Suite’ (called ‘Kill The King’ in the UK and Australia) debuts on November 14. The fierce film follows two lovebirds, played by sexpot Emily Browning and Luke Grimes, on a no–holds–barred adventure to snuff out the King himself, Elvis Presley. With a thematic resemblance to ‘True Romance’, ‘Natural Born Killers’ and ‘Bonnie & Clyde’, O’Keefe’s movie (written jointly with Chris Hutton) is aesthetically excellent with an antique 70s air, garishly colored shots, and reddened with episodes of violence, ecstasy, insanity and amusement.
