David Lynch likes Donald Trump!
‘Then there’s David Lynch. Enjoy it because his career in Hollywood is officially over.’
The Donald delights at reading essays about himself, and often sees things through his own self-absorbed reality distortion field. And in an era of geopolitical surrealism and strategic dada, the POTUS delivers stream of consciousness-style speeches about his standing in the world, which includes a ‘much more respected America’, deep state subversion, China’s terrible trade transgressions, a discredited Jimmy Fallon, and David Lynch’s affinity for the leader of the free world. Yep, David Lynch loves Donald Trump — it’s official!
In a surreal skit akin to something David might have directed himself, the windbag president argued to a crowd of voters in South Carolina that David’s career is “over.” The surreal and entrancing segue touched on everything from Melania’s alleged facelifts (‘fake news’) to North Korea’s outright capitulation and Stephen Colbert’s pathetic lack of talent. He then quoted a Guardian piece that Breitbart later amplified, in which the 72-year-old avant-garde filmmaker said that “Trump’s presidency will be historic.”
“He could go down as one of the greatest presidents in history because he has disrupted the thing so much. No one is able to counter this guy in an intelligent way,” said David Lynch. The article implied that Trump is doing a bang-up job, and in his typical Yoda-style circumlocution, the POTUS yammered: “Our so-called leaders can’t take the country forward, can’t get anything done. Like children, they are. Trump has shown all this.” Hmm.
Though Lynch’s iconic filmography is not explicitly political, he does delve into the darkness of American culture – just consider the opening of Blue Velvet, which pans from a charming and humble suburban house scene to grody insects slithering underneath the manicured lawn, or images of atomic bombs exploding in Twin Peaks as a metaphor for Bob’s volcanic rage.
Anyway, it seems David Lynch likes the Donald as the ‘Disruptor-in
