Fashion Backlash – Kendall and Kylie Jenner
Mega money-makers, cultural appropriators and tabloid heavyweights Kylie and Kendall Jenner have pulled their recent apparel project after an onslaught of internet opposition.
The capsule range — “a vintage selection of individually hand-picked T-shirts” — saw the girls shamelessly emblazon their own mugs over musical legends such as Notorious B.I.G, The Doors, Tupac, Ozzy Osbourne and Pink Floyd. The interwebs went instantly berserk and demanded that the girls cancel the self-aggrandizing garments. Numerous celebs and family members came out in force to dis the line (the shirts were priced at $125 each and sold-out in a jiffy), and a few threatened to litigate over copyright infringements. Notorious B.I.G.’s mother, Voletta Wallace, called the effort “disrespectful, disgusting, and exploitation at its worst.” A scathing Sharon Osbourne weighed in on social media, saying, “Girls, you haven’t earned the right to put your face with musical icons. Stick to what you know…lip gloss.” And virtually every fashion mag has posted something critical about the ‘self-centered’ and ‘egomaniacal’ airheads. Is nothing sacred? Hmmm. Anyway, we still have the hots for Kendall. Read more here.
Although the girls have issued an apology, the limited range sold out in about 11 seconds.
