Kim Shui – SS18
Kim Shui’s collections are disruptive in both concept and design, with lux materials and silhouettes that are sexy and avant-garde.
VFILES AW16 alum Kim Shui was born in the US, reared in Rome, and attended Duke University down in North Carolina where she snagged a degree in Econ. After that, she cut her teeth at Parsons in NYC and Central Saint Martins in London, where she mastered the art of pattern construction, draping and design. It’s a CV as mingled and mashed up as her florid jumpsuits, tweed getups, snakeskin accents and steamy bikinis.
We love her intelligent integrations and diverse range of references with precisely engineered construction and exacting attention to detail. Meticulous cuts add intrigue and drama to her eye-popping outerwear, vibrant blood-red hues (we love the jacket below, etc.) bring contemporary appeal to vintage-inspired pieces, and bold contrasts lends visual pizzazz to her sexy silhouettes and picturesque patterns.
This season, she regaled us on the runway with her rollicking range, and tells VIVISXN her collection is about “individual identity expressed through processes of improvisation.” Her SS18 collection, she says, is “about exploring the threshold between what is silent and what is loud, what is excessive and what is not.”
Shwinnnnnnnnnng! We adore you, Kim Shui!
