Nicolas Winding Refn – byNWR.com
Our favorite auteur Nicolas Winding Refn launches a free streaming service. Fuck yeah!
The visionary behind some of the coolest films ever — Drive and The Neon Demon, etc.— is developing a film streaming platform. Nicolas Winding Refn is one of the most innovative movie-makers around (on par with the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson). This February he is debuting byNWR.com, a slick screening service like no other: “an unadulterated expressway for the arts.”
Showcasing a range of international films with a focus on cult and avant-garde, Winding Refn has curated a compelling visual oeuvre that is sure to whet your film appetite (he has even restored and re-mastered some of his own masterful archival work).
Every few months there will be a guest curator — “a hand-picked cultural partner” who will select rare and inspiring films to feature,” said the PRs. Working with London-based The Bureau, MUBI, Harvard Film Archive and Milan Records, the service is set to be a cinematographic tour de force.
The coolest part: all content will be available to view online for free, with a select few going to big screens around the world. The first volume is set to launch early next year, curated by author and journalist Jimmy McDonough focused on 60s-era exploitation cinema.
