Palace x Ralph Lauren
Palace and Ralph Lauren are launching a joint venture. Yay. But WTF?!
If you were in Tokyo or London last weekend, you probably saw the ginormous navy blue/white signboards promoting the Palace x Ralph Lauren collab. In a totally oddball synergy, the classic American fashion house will co-mingle its iconic logo with the shiny London-based skate/lifestyle label, once more blurring the lines between luxe, street fashion and what the f^*k-ness.
Palace’s clever co-founders Lev Tanju and Gareth Skewis have always been fond of hijacking the preppy Americana look, sporting popped Polo collars and pairing traditional Waspy wear with baggy camo trousers and token track pants to achieve that chav-chic skate thing. “It’s the only brand that you can wear to a board meeting, a funeral and go to a football match in – all in the same day,” Lev told VIVISXN regarding RL.
Previous Palace collabs have included Oakley, Reebok, adidas, Umbro, etc. Ralph Lauren will be able to leverage a growing British millennial lifestyle brand through this novel initiative, while Palace will crossover into a lucrative new demo (they hope) with oodles of purchasing power. We predict the Polo x Palace capsule range will generate some added Xmas revenue for the two labels this season.
But what a weirdo combo. Anyway, we’re fans! Lev and Gareth said this on social media: “Palace Ralph Lauren is a timeless collection that represents a love letter from a young London skateboard company to their favorite brand in the universe.” Ralph Lauren trades under the ticker RL on the NYSE. Look for that name to pop to the upside into the silly season!
