Psychopathic Justin Bieber Fans
A new study makes the case that if you love Justin Bieber you might just be clinically insane.
Sigmund Freud originally distinguished between neurosis and psychosis in the following way: “In neurosis the ego suppresses part of the id out of allegiance to reality, whereas in psychosis it lets itself be carried away by the id and detached from a part of reality.” In other words, psychosis is when you can’t differentiate between fantasy and reality.
Two researchers at NYU’s psychology department, Pascal Wallisch and Nicole Leal, recently interviewed some subjects, crunched some data and established a correlation between Justin Bieber’s songs and various psychopathological states. Yep, the shrinks believe there is an empirical relationship between liking Bieb’s music and being a bit unhinged.
About 200 students made up the sample set, with each asked to evaluate their own degree psychopathy, and then rate various songs. The findings showed that ‘psychopaths’ had a particular affinity for Justin’s jams, and also displayed a penchant for music by Eminem. Well, duh. Anyway, read more about the research findings here.
