teamLab is finally coming to NYC
Japanese art collective teamLab is bringing its ambitious immersive technology + art platform to NYC.
Get ready to get sucked into teamLab’s swirling vortex visual wonderland. The Tokyo-based art posse — famous for putting on opalescent digital exhibits and interactive panoramas — will combine forces with creatives like Leo Villareal, Kara Walker, Pace Gallery, etc. when they set up shop in Brooklyn next summer. Yeah, it’s a long way off but our taste filters are already bristling. We can’t wait!
With a knack for engineering insane optical domains, the team of ultra-talented artists, animators, coders, and mathematicians will deliver mind-melting installations around video, LED, CGI and avant-garde soundscapes. The project will incorporate state-of-the-art virtual reality (VR), online streaming, trippy as fuck holograms and mixed-media madness that is certain to transport you to new synesthetic realms.
Founded back in 2001 by Toshiyuki Inoko, teamLab’s raison d’être is to explore new frontiers and forge novel art-tech-cultural synergies. In Brooklyn the team will re-create select installations from their Tokyo oeuvre — Planets, Koi Infinity Pond, Floating in the Falling Universe of Flowers — an exhibit that explores the complex relationship between analogue and digital, didactic and discursive, existential and transcendental.
Expect nothing less than interactive awesomeness complete with astral mosaics, a maze of psychotropic rooms, prismatic ponds filled with hi-def koi fish via teamLab’s holodeck-like simulations; cherry blossoms in beautiful bloom and chimeric-quantum sensory overload. We’re so stoked!
