ICA Miami – Larry Bell: ‘Time Machine’
This entrancing exhibit features a few of Larry’s hard-edged and prismatic pieces, including his early Cube series and his gleaming, large-scale glass installations.
The craft-master visionary, aesthetic tinkerer, explorer-architect, eco-rogue, interior embellisher Larry Bell loves to light up a space. His art entices the imagination and is a resonant example of a type of thinking and acting that allows you to see and experience vibrant new vistas.
The color-addicted, polyhedra-producing cosmographer of the cube, who in the early days began framing scraps of glass and industrial detritus and converting them into poetic/psychedelic orthogonal projections, has honed his craft into utterly possessing optical ornaments. He is the cigar-puffing, puckish progenitor of works that propagate waves and particles into visual-transitional razzle-dazzle: polymorphic geometrics, iridescent elliptical forms, Mylar-coated surface areas, chromodynamic mirrors, and magical Cartesian mediums that make your neurons morph.
At ICA Miami, Larry’s mega-transmundane arrangements – made of polyester resin, glass, cast acrylic and lucite jams – leverage audio-visual arcanum, fresh photography and multimedia mechanics to engender uncanny and awesome art. Check it…
