VICE MEDIA – ‘Blowing Shit Up’
Hipster news outlet VICE MEDIA says “Let’s Blow Up Mount Rushmore.”
We may be hitting insane new heights in the media space today. An easy mark editor at VICE, a left-leaning news and pop culture portal based in Brooklyn, New York, recommended that Mt. Rushmore should be subjected to the same freaky statue-felling craze that has gripped ANTIFA, BLM and other anti-monument ‘let’s sanitize history’ outfits. “Let’s blow up Mt. Rushmore,” wrote Vice’s Wilbert L. Cooper.
Just as the horrific terror attack in Barcelona was unfolding and global financial markets were roiling hard, the hipster site, which appeals to millennials and starry-eyed ideologues, tweeted out an article advocating for blowing up Mount Rushmore, complete with a dramatic photoshopped fissure running through the monolithic granite faces of America’s bygone premiers.
Vice initially ran the piece like this:
“Demystifying the historical figures of the past, pulling them off the great mountain top back down to Earth where they shat, farted, spit, pissed, fucked, raped, murdered, died, and rotted seems like important business for this country. As long as we allow those men to be cults of personality who exist beyond reproach, we’re never going to be able to see them for all of their good and all of their evil.”
After a fiery online push back, Vice hastily deleted the post and changed the article’s tone to a more mellow “Let’s Get Rid of Mt. Rushmore.” An editor’s note at the bottom of the page went like this:
“The headline and URL of this story have been updated. We do not condone violence in any shape or form, and the use of “blow up” in the original headline as a rhetorical device was misguided and insensitive. We apologize for the error.”
“With the POTUS basically justifying neo-Nazism, it seems unthinkable that we will ever see a day when there is a serious push to blow up Mt. Rushmore and other monuments like it. But if that moment ever arrives, I suspect I’d be onboard.” — Wilbert L. Cooper | VICE
According to the EIU, 62 percent of Americans think the monuments should stay put. Only 27 percent think they should be removed for fear of offending some people. As usual, public opinion is not stopping the sophomoric (re: post-modernist nihilist) left from pursuing a kind of iconoclastic Cultural Revolution. Anyway…
