Forty Five Ten x Katherine Bernhardt
The upscale Dallas clothier just added a full-on Katherine Bernhardt café. Fucking cool!
Dallas is well known for its yokel debutantes, cheeseball fashion and Texan y’all drawls. But Forty Five Ten, a progressive clothing peddler located down on Main Street, is bucking the stereotype.
The multi-brand boutique stocks a modicum of swish brands (MSGM, Margiela, Nicholas Kirkwood, etc.) and just revamped the cafe in the image of Katherine Bernhardt’s riotous art. Katherine, if you weren’t already aware, is the Brooklyn-based froot loop who paints surreal flowers, random fruits, bumble bees, toucans, sharks and cigarettes with a wacky deviant pep and waggish pluralist pop.
The cafe, called ‘No Aloha’ (presumably named after a Breeders song – sweet), incorporates Katherine’s signature anarchical splendor. A gypsy and nervy painter with a knack for slinging surreal and figurative abstractions, Katherine went all out with vivacious acrylics, spray paints and imagistic playfulness to embellish the café’s cool interior.
The walls and ceiling are emblazoned with a range of rascally tropes, symbols and silhouettes: Pac-Man heads, cigarettes, laptops, tacos, sharks, fruit, etc. Graphically goofy, gawky and exerting a certain gravitational torque, this artistic eatery is an epicurean delight.
Go to Dallas, y’all, and grab a croissant, some Texan-style tea and toast, and soak up Katherine Bernhardt’s quirky art installation at Forty Five Ten’s ‘No Aloha.’
And p.s., we’re just joshin’ about the ‘yokel y’all’ thing. Dallas is fucking dope and we’re really relieved that Texans didn’t vote that dunderhead Beto O’Rourke into office. Yee-haw.
Forty Five Ten’s ‘No Aloha’ is located at 1615 Main Street, Dallas, Texas.
