We’re Fans – Alexandra Fan
In communist China, the Orwellian overlords push conformity, servility, submission and obedience to authority to establish a dystopian slave-state. But not everything from the Middle Kingdom is a hopeless, dispirited and drab cog in a repressive commie machine. That’s why we love Alexandra Fan, a diamond in the rough designing garments with a distinct visual language and futuristic birr. She grew up in China but transplanted herself to Edinburgh, Scotland in pursuit of the avant-garde and a first class degree in fashion.
Blurred through a beautiful synthesis of East-West elements, states of flux, Euclidean geometrics and uber tactile textures, her whole-hearted aesthetic incorporates snazzy graphics, esoteric shapes, oversized silhouettes and eco sustainability. Alexandra just presented her goodies at Edinburgh College of Art/Graduate Fashion Week (in partnership with Donghua University – 东华大学). We love her modernist purity, sculptural pep, architectural fluidity and Tron-like textures.
