Tokyo Fashion Fixation – BALMUNG
Hachi Balmung is the multi-hyphenate designer behind one of Japan’s coolest cult brands, BALMUNG. His clothes crackle with blazing neon blooms and graphic pictorial storms that will trigger hallucinations and synesthetic sensations.
Schooled in electrical engineering and steeped in Tokyo’s innovative streetwear scene, Hachi’s voltaic take on fashion is penetrating and profound. He was a buyer at CANDY in Shibuya-ku-渋谷区 and ruled Tokyo’s underground club circuit, making merry soirees for our favorite party platforms VANITY, MEAT, TFR, Narziβ, and NEON SPREAD. His label has attained critical acclaim and sacred status for its ingenious play with proportions, popping colorways and tranquilizing textures.
Evocative of Bernhard Willhelm, Andrea Jiapei Li or Walter Van Beirendonck, BALMANG’s artisanal apparel strikes layered, front line silhouettes, rendered in novel, luxurious materials and accented with dramatic detailing and dope graphics. From modifications on streetwear staples to diaphanous pullovers, hoodies and super textural garms, BALMANG’s youthquake designs are the yummiest things we’ve seen in a while. Check out BALMANG…
