‘Lock-up Nation’ – Kim Kardashian + President Trump
Kim Kardashian addresses America’s over-punitive, carceral state. ‘Tragic.’
After months of behind-the-scenes planning, the reigning queen of reality TV, Kim Kardashian West, is on her way to the West Wing to hang with President Trump. The topic of discussion: prison reform and clemency – particularly, the case of sexagenarian grandma Alice Marie Johnson, who was sent to the big house back in ‘97 on money laundering and drug conspiracy charges. She’s currently serving a life sentence without possibility of parole.
According to reports, Kim has been talking with Ivanka and her hubbie, Jared, about the 62-year-old’s case. She’s lobbying for Johnson’s pardon and a radical redress of America’s draconian penal policies. Secret Service agents have even screened/briefed the wide-booty reality icon, who is prepping for a ‘serious sit-down’ with the President in the Oval Office. She is petitioning the POTUS for Johnson to be fully exonerated. Jared is interested in this issue, obviously, because his dad (Charles Kushner) was sent to jail back in the day for tax evasion and witness tampering.
This is not the first time Kim has flexed her 90+ million follower-fame for political aims. Earlier this week, she took to social media to express sadness about Matthew Charles, a recently liberated jailbird who was mistakenly let out and then reincarcerated. He was released from prison early in 2016 after a sentence commute, but was sent back to the slammer to finish his sentence because the court made an ‘admin mistake.’ WTF!?
Kim wrote: “This man (below) is sentenced to 35 yrs for selling drugs. He serves over 21 yrs, is released, finds a job, new relationship, starts a new life, and now is being sent back for another 10 yrs because the original release was an error. This man has completely rehabilitated himself. So sad.”
Anyway, it is nice that Kim is using her clout to bring attention to America’s redic criminal-justice system and irrational incarceration policies. No country imprisons a larger share of its people than America (well, China comes close…and North Korea. But those [totalitarian states] are third-world basket cases). America’s incarceration rate — 693 of every 100,000 — is nearly five times Britain’s, six times Canada’s and 15 times Japan’s. So many of these sentences are unjust, especially when it comes to frivolous/non-violent crimes. Race, unfortunately, can also be a determining/incriminating factor.
In fact, there are more than 2.3 million Americans in the pen. Statistically, a third of African-American men can expect to be locked up at some point, and one in nine black children has a parent behind bars. VIVISXN commends Kim for prodding the White House into ameliorating the policies that have resulted in a jam-packed jailhouse nation. Go girl! And kudos to Mr. Kushner as well!
