Marine Serre – SS19
Marine Serre is getting oodles of ink lately. Her fashion fuses florid colors with a new age, bohemian urban zest. A few observers argue that her designs even improve mental health. Hmm.
Marine Serre is a cute bohemian brownie pushing ‘hardcore couture.’ Her fashion aim is “to improve the world and improve the inner spirit of the person wearing it.” This season she implemented garish, graphic-laden garms with a twist of post-modern street pep. For SS18, her countercultural gear consisted of proprietary prints (her signature crescent moon), eccentric styling (loads of layering!) and offbeat construction techniques/materials (she champions sustainability -‘upcycled eco-futurism’).
Her aesthetic looks a lot like the stuff designed by Demna Gvasalia of Balenciaga, where she once worked. It feels like VETEMENTS, too. We really like her slim leggings, surreal scuba-style get-ups, dragon-emblazoned purple leotards, fun fanny packs, hybrid sunglasses and occasional balaclava. That gray trench coat with a white zipper around the collar (below) is really creamy dreamy. Kudos, Marine Serre. Also, look out for Marine’s cool footwear collab with Melissa (images at bottom).
