Harmony Korine x Gagosian Gallery – ‘BLOCKBUSTER’
An ode to analogue and a tribute to VHS, Harmony Korine’s eighties and naughties nostalgia are ornamented on Gagosian’s exhibit walls in NYC. It’s super chill.
The Miami-based auteur behind Gummo, Trash Humpers, Spring Breakers, Kids and The Beach Bum (coming soon), has spawned an art and cinematic cosmos imbued with surreal plots, quirky characters and disturbing depictions of youth culture taken straight from his struggles with depression, drug abuse and personal vice. But while the bad boy of indie film has long since grown up — or at least matured a bit — his trippy movies, montages, paintings, love of Taco Bell and wacky-cool worldview are all still artistically, ingeniously threaded together and really, really inspirational. Here are a few visuals from ‘BLOCKBUSTER’, Harmony‘s newest art exhibit at Gagosian in NYC. You should go.
