New Film – ‘Asian Girls’
Hyun Lee and Hannah-Florence Macgregor are the far-out auteurs exploring Asian alienation, pseudo-eroticism, graphic gastronomy and fetishistic feedback loops. Their new short film, ‘Asian Girls’, is mega-cool and a wee bit morbid. We’re fans!
Starring pretty polymath artist-cum-social theorist Rainbow Chan alongside illustrator Stellar Leuna — and incidentally her identical twin sis (hot!) — ‘Asian Girls’ is a visceral journey and visual tour de force that will send cold chills down your spinal column. Interrogating the stereotypes of Asian girls and exploring a range of fetishes, the film (which debuted at SXSW last week), is snazzy, sexy, sinister and abundantly freaky.
Hyun said she was being both serious and tongue in cheek: “It’s kind of a joke, and kind of not, but I always wanted to make a film called ‘Asian Girls’ so when guys Googled those words to find porn, they might come across my weird horror film instead. I actually made a Pornhub account the other day to post the trailer and maybe one day I’ll release the whole film on there too. The fetishization of Asian women is something that’s interesting to me.” At VIVISXN, we’re keenly interested in that topic, too!
With a bangin’ soundtrack and psychotic leitmotif, ‘Asian Girls’ is a wicked piece of indie cinema. We love! Check out the pics and trailer below…
