Tom Ford’s new film ‘Nocturnal Animals’
In the wake of his show last week, designer-cum-auteur Tom Ford debuted the new trailer for Nocturnal Animals, a film he directed starring Jake Gyllenhall and Amy Adams that won accolades at the 2016 Venice International Film Festival and got mucho props at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film is about an LA gallerist who, after two decades of not speaking to her ex-husband, receives a manuscript from him about a clutch of misfits who commit a horrendous crime against a family of three, so she takes it as a personal threat. Based on Austin Wright’s 1993 novel Tony and Susan, the plot leverages love, lust, rage and revenge to the endth degree. It reveals dark-truths about all involved and follows gusty love-affairs and roller coaster emotions. Variety Mag’s film critic Owen Gleiberman wrote that “Ford doesn’t just recycle pulp — he aestheticizes it by taking it dead seriously. He strives to turn pulp into art.” IndieWire said this about the flick: “Nocturnal Animals is an impressively ambitious effort, one part mean Texas thriller, one part middle-age melodrama, and makes for a meta-textual riddle that is almost as pleasurable to reflect on as it to actually watch.” Another cinema buff billed it as “a haunting romantic thriller of shocking intimacy and gripping tension that explores the thin lines between love and cruelty, and revenge and redemption.” Fashion wise, the film delivers a few stylish close-ups with an overall normcore style and overlaid with a smidgen of luxe looks. Nocturnal Animals comes out on November 4th 2016. Check out the teaser below.
