A full-tilt painterly dive into identity, anguish, body consciousness and social awareness. We love Alina Zamanova’s entrancing, existential selfscapes.
The Kiev-born London-based illustrator Alina Zamanova makes super surreal compositions and fierce fashion ensembles. Her aesthetic encapsulates femme sensuality, the sociology of subcultures and what it means to live uncomfortably in your own skin. Much of Alina’s work has a spiky, angsty, ominous aspect to it — a lot of it deals with alienation, introspection, identity and “ugliness.”
Alina studied at LCF and did a stint at Alexander McQueen focusing on design and illustration. She has done collabs with Revlon, Vivienne Westwood, Chinq Pink and more. Her creations blend self-conscious expression with experimental, DIY energy — the delicate shadings between the wayward and the wanton, the lighthearted and the blighted, cool insider and cold outsider. We love her totally authentic artisanal approach, tantalizing mix of wearable art and weirdo/WOW AF imagery (especially the TnA!). Check out Gillian Jason Gallery here and take a panoramic tour of Alina‘s ‘Inside Me‘ exhibit where she explores themes around beauty, perception, art and cognition.
