Taiwan-based shutterbug, Zhong Lin, has been cranking out killer visuals during the Wuhan Virus crisis. Her hypnotic optics will flood your eyes and bend your brain.
Think of her as Chen Man – 陳漫 with a Taiwanese twist: an optical mixmaster, style sampler, recombiner of ravishing aesthetics, and mad multimedia alchemist set to the beat of postmodern dream pop. HQ’d in Taiwan, a.k.a. ‘Free China’ (which, by the way, IS NOT commie CHINA!), and influenced by indie film and oddball art, she is churning out wowy-zowie work!
Zhong Lin‘s photos have the look and feel of brilliant, eternal youthfulness to them, an agile enchantment that cuts through the world of chaos, disorder and disease. Everything’s pretty, pristine and anxious at once; space and spirit flow; the mind wanders far and wide. We love her surreal saturation, exquisite textures and fashion-savvy frames.
Zhong Lin’s snaps reveal a hallucinogenic, nonhierarchical and laissez-faire way of seeing — magically texturized pics perfectly pitched. Her self-reflexive beauty binge embodies chance, angst, joy, style, preciousness and personal growth. She has been super-productive during this totally fucked China-induced pandemic, making at least one awe-inspiring image per day from scratch. Her aim is to make 365.
“I want to rediscover what it means to start from nothing. No limits, no boundaries and no definition,” sain Lin on social media. Almost 100 days/images later, she has an incredible body of work. Fact: Taiwan has been the most successful at managing the Wuhan virus outbreak and mitigating the deadly contagion, despite being 110 miles off the coast of the communist death star. The enlightened authorities in Taiwan didn’t impose a draconian country-wide lockdown, allowing creatives like Zhong Lin to get on with their craft while shielding, masking and social distancing responsibly.
“My father is a cinema aficionado and he’d take me to the movies a lot when I was a kid. That specific period of my life has undoubtedly nurtured my aesthetic. I am always drawn to cinematic effects…but for me the medium of photography remains one of the simplest ways to communicate a sense of beauty and allure,” Lin says.
Anyway, her visuals are transcendentally beautiful and mega cool! We 很喜欢 ❤ Zhong Lin.
